Window Repair

from:

Window replacement can be an intimidating job, but window replacement isn’t always the answer. Window repair can also be a viable option when you know the tips and tricks to possible window repair. Some people believe that a broken window must always be replaced. Before they even consider any type of repair, they’re on the phone searching for window replacement experts.

And this can add up to thousands of dollars if you’re not careful!

Before you decide your window repair is out of your control and you have to spend hundreds of dollars on new windows, consider some of the following tips.

1. Window repair can be as easy as scraping off layers of old paint that have built up over the years. You may think your windows no longer work, but when you find out the excess paint is all that is keeping them from moving, it’s as easy as 1-2-3.

2. Weather-stripping is another possibility when it comes to window repair. Weather stripping comes in a variety of different forms and it can be attached to the sides of the windows to keep air from leaking in and out – making the windows like new in many cases. The weather stripping closes the gap between the window and the casing, which gives it a tight seal but leaves enough room for the window to ‘breathe’. Installing weather stripping takes a little time and effort since windows have to be removed and reinstalled, but a home improvement store has all of the supplies and instructions you need.

3. Repairing a window and restoring its appearance is also an option. If windows appear to be deteriorating, peeling, and rotting, there is still hope. Do-it-yourselfers can make small repairs that make a huge difference. Putty is just one option for repairing cracks and seams when they appear.

4. Painting is not just for cosmetic purposes. It is a way to protect and seal your windows. Keeping your windows in good repair means sanding, sealing, and repainting periodically. As mentioned earlier, paint and putty can build up so be sure to remove excess paint, putty, and peeling paint before reapplying a new coat.

Keeping windows in good repair before they deteriorate too badly is the best prevention. Spending some time inspecting your windows each year to identify potential problems is a good maintenance routine. The time you spend with window repair can save you thousands of dollars down the road. Not only are you saving your window, but you are saving lots of money by not allowing heat or air conditioning to escape through your windows.

Don’t assume windows always need replacing. Consider other window repair alternatives first and keep them in good working condition. It’s an investment you’ll be glad you made in your property.
