Shingling a Roof – DIY or Pay for Pros?

from:

Shingling a roof can be a challenging proposal no matter how handy you think you may be. There is more involved in this process than you may realize because it does involve more than simply having the skills to do the job but the added danger of odd angles and being up high. There are dangers involved in shingling roofs that are not always present when doing other construction projects.

If you have any sensations of vertigo, fear of heights, or inner ear problems it is a good idea to avoid this job and pay someone who has the experience to do it for you. You do not want to risk falling or injuring yourself. If you do not only will you end up having to pay someone to finish the job for you but also lose time from work and money for medical expenses and recovery care.

In other words, if there is any doubt about your ability to get the job done or perform the job without harming yourself in the process, it is best to pay the price for someone else to do the work for you. Your health and safety should be your first consideration. Cost cutting efforts can come somewhere other than labor.

You should also pay the price for professionals if you are at all concerned about your ability to install the roof properly. While the labor for the roofing process isn't cheap at all, neither is the expense of the material. You do not want to end up buying the material twice and paying the price for labor because you botched the installation. It will definitely be a bitter pill to swallow. Avoid this by turning to professional labor if there is any doubt at all that you can do the job yourself. If you think labor is expensive from the beginning wait until you get the price for labor to repair extra damage you may have caused in your efforts to shingle a roof on your own.

Shingling a roof is a difficult task in the best of circumstances. If your roof has a steep pitch, is high off the ground, has a lot of valleys and grooves, it is well worth considering going with the pros for the sake of avoiding costly mistakes by doing it yourself. Certain aspects of the job present unique challenges that professional roofers are best equipped to deal with. Besides you might discover that it costs much less to pay the pros to get the job done than it would to purchase the materials and equipment necessary to do it yourself. Only you can make the final decision as to whether you'll be shingling a roof yourself or going with the pros.
