You have all the pictures of the different modifications so you know how you want everything to look. Now you are ready to make the plans to for talking to the contractor about all of the projects to make your home the beautiful creation of your dreams.

Here are ten tips for working with a contractor.

Plan each project carefully. Gather all the pictures you have saved up. Write a description on each project.

Make a list of contractors. Ask your friends and neighbors for any references. Ask the salesperson at the home improvement store for a recommendation.

Compile at least three bids on the different projects. Select the bid from the contractor with the best prices covering all of the details of each project.

Verify with your local contractor’s board the credentials of the contractor you have selected. Verify the contractor is licensed, bonded, and insured.

Ask the contractor for references you can contact to check with about their work they performed for the customers.

Get signed contract from the contractor stating all the details, costs, removal of the work debris, and payment schedules. The contract should also include all warranties and guarantees for the work performed.

Make needed changes to the project in writing to avoid all misunderstandings and mistakes.

Keep the children and pets away from the various worksites. This helps to avoid any possible damages to the work areas and accidents the children or pets may have. It also keeps the children and pets from disrupting the work of the workers causing accidents or delays on the project.

Inspect the different phases of the project. Keep track of the time schedule and make sure the contractor is staying on schedule.

Pay directly and promptly according to the contract.

Make sure you have the options of open communications with the contractor. You need to be able to talk to the contractor about the different projects at various times so you need to be comfortable talking to the contractor.

You also need to be able to talk to the contractor about possible changes of the different projects without feeling they will become upset or irate. The contractor needs to be the type of person you can easily approach throughout the time of the projects.

Finding the right contractor requires time to investigate all of your options. To take the time will mean you will have beautiful projects completed within the stated time limits and budget. You will be happy you have the new additions to your home.
