How to Pick a Stone Surface

from:

Stone surfaces as a material for the home add value and a luxurious appeal to any area. The stone is used for many purposed such as countertops, flooring, walls, and patios. Depending on the location the stone surfaces create an entirely new look and can be personalized by the desires of the homeowner. Some of the different materials for the stone surfaces include, marble, granite, and limestone.

To begin the process of selecting a stone surface, first decide where the stone will be. There are different composites for the stones based on their location. To find the best stone surface for any area, visit a masonry for suggestions or use the internet for information before starting the project.

Once you have decided the location and picked out the material, select a pattern for the stone surface. This includes the color of the stone. Take into consideration the wear the stone will have in the specific location. Floors in a high traffic area require a durable stone material. Countertops also have different materials for that area. The different areas can create issues of chipping, cracking, and crumbling, so it is very important to keep the location in mind when selecting the surface stone material.

With each type of stone material is a different type of maintenance involved. You will need to know how to maintain the stone for optimal long lasting benefits. You do not want to have to do extra work just to have the stone remain beautiful looking or have the area wear out with continued use. There is also the factor of the stone may require a sealant to protect the surface. Stone surfaces breathe so they tend to need sealants to preserve them. Find out how often the stone will need to be resealed. This can be an additional cost to contemplate when selecting the different stone material.

Decide if you want a natural stone or a man made stone material. Natural stone is beautiful yet is also hard to find an exact match should in the future an area needs to be replaced. Man made stone has the same appearance of the natural stone but it will be easier to match the colors and patterns for replacement in the future. Man made stone is also less expensive to purchase. Getting the natural appearance of stone for the cheapest price appeals to many people. It is something to consider when selecting the materials for the stone surface.

Depending on the methods of installation is depends on if you install the stone yourself or if you hire a professional. Some projects require professional installation due to the complexity of the project. To use a professional also guarantees the installations are correctly done and meet the manufacturer’s requirements for warranties. Yet there are still warranties available on the materials for people installing the materials by themselves. Choose the best option for the project to be completed.
