7. Use lamps to create the right effect
from:Lighting is a principle of design and good designers know how important the element is. Sure, you may have spared no expenses on creating an envious home for yourself by spending time and effort on draperies, furnishings and so on, but your home still lacks the warmth and cosiness you intended it to have in the first place. This is because you have overlooked your home lighting, which is very important. Lighting can create that warmth and appeal in your home – if properly created – or, if done poorly, can make your home appear gloomy and depressing.
Interior designers, understanding the use of light to accent contemporary homes, use light to bring a room alive, which you can also do without a designer. One of the best ways to make your lighting décor a statement is to use a combination of floor and table lamps. Lamps are a great investment, as they are flexible and can be moved from one area to another and don’t create the spaghetti effect of wires everywhere. Plus, lamps save you money and energy, as you only light the areas you want at a specific time. Lamps also help you to take away the attention from less desirable areas of a room.
Before you can use lamps effectively, you first have to ask yourself what you intend to achieve. For instance, you might want general lighting in a corner of a room to light a work area, such as a desk. By doing this, you are able to choose from a wide selection of lamps such as floor lamps or table lamps.
After you have done this, think of styles. Nowadays, your choice is unlimited. You can choose from conventional, chic and ultramodern styles. Floor lamps and table lamps come in a wide variety of colours and materials. You can get them in brass, plastic and wood. This way, there is a lamp to suit your style and needs.
Further, consider the illumination a lamp casts. Nowadays with the choice wider, you can get lamps with bulbs that cast distinct lights. One of the most classic of these bulbs is the luminescent kind that casts a warm light. These types are not expensive, albeit not very energy efficient. As an alternative, consider a lamp with a dimmer that accepts bulbs that are tri-lights. This way, you can alter the light to the mood, and also save energy.
Alternative choices that were not available in the past, but now are, are compact fluorescent bulbs and halogen bulbs. Compact fluorescent bulbs fit in standard light sockets and are very energy efficient. In additional, these bulbs come in a variety of lighting tones so that you can have both energy efficiency and a warm, appealing light. The other alternative is halogen bulbs. These tiny bulbs project a bright, whitish light ideal for spot lighting.
