How to Get Great Ideas for Your Kitchen Remodel

There are a lot of ways you can get great ideas for your next kitchen remodel and we’ll look at a few of them here.
Tour Model Homes
Model homes often represent what homes in a subdivision or what homes built by a certain contractor will look like upon completion. Often, “open house” is held on the weekends so consumers can walk in at their leisure and look around. This is a great opportunity to see updated kitchens and get some ideas about what you would like to do to update your kitchen. You might just take away one idea, such as a type of countertop or cabinetry but you will be inspired when you see shiny new kitchens on display. Pay special attention to how storage needs are handled and look at the lighting and fixtures to get ideas also.
Watch TV
Often, especially on cable television, you can see various remodeling jobs and home improvement projects being done right before your eyes. Not only can you get ideas from these shows but you can get step by step instructions as well. Instead of just seeing before and after pictures, you’ll actually be able to see the project in various steps as it is completed. You’ll also get tips on what to avoid so this can be a fun learning experience.
Surf the Internet
Home improvement is a hot topic online and there are a many websites that offer tips and instructions. Many of the websites also have do-it-yourself videos that show how to complete a variety of projects. In fact, many of the home improvement shows that you can watch on television have a website also that contains videos and step by step instructions of projects you may have seen on TV. Also, look for manufacturer’s websites. Companies that manufacture building materials often have websites that offer explicit instructions on how to build something or install something that you have purchased from them.
Experiment With Design Software
You can also find free home design software online that will allow you to create a virtual kitchen using different components, such as appliances, cabinetry, countertops, flooring, and walls. Most of this software comes with a large library of choices and you can have a lot of fun dragging and dropping different components so you can see how the finished product will look. Get creative and see how you can virtually remodel your kitchen before you ever lift a finger at home!
