How to Install Marble Flooring

from:

Marble flooring is one of the most beautiful and elaborate types of flooring that one can install. However, it is not known for its ease of use and care. It is also not popular because it is not as easy to install as most traditional types of flooring may be.

Sub Floor Prep

The first step to take on when going to put in a new marble floor is going to be the preparation of the sub floor. The sub floor is the surface to which the marble is going to be applied. Due to the weight of the marble, the floor will need to be very sturdy and straight. The sub floor will also need to be very level so as to avoid the possibility of cracking and bowing. If necessary, replace sections of the subfloor that are warped or misshapen so as to avoid the possibility of damaging the marble when it is installed.

Measure

There are many things that and reasons to measure. You of course will need to measure the size of the area where the marble is going to be installed. You will also need to measure and determine the amount of grout and adhesive that will be needed for the installation of the marble as well. Make sure to use the right type as well as to get extra in the event of repairs or replacement from everyday wear and tear. It will be almost impossible to match the original that was there with something new and made years later.

The same goes for the marble tile as well. The last thing that you will want to do is to try and to find a replacement for a cracked or chipped piece of flooring. This can be avoided by having spare pieces on hand and in the wings to put into the floor in the event of an accident.

The Tools

You will want to make sure that before you even consider putting down the flooring that you have that you have all of the tools that are necessary to do the installation. You will not even think until you are actually going to do the job and then suddenly, you realize you do not have the spacers needed to hold the tiles in place as you distribute then evenly on the floor about many things.

Other tools that you will need to have will be a trowel that you can use to apply the grout and adhesive to the flooring. You will also need a sponge for spreading the grout and to fill in between the tiles. The other item that you will need will be a tile cutter, that is of course unless you are extremely lucky and that you have the perfect room.
