Remodeling? Rethink Your Home Phone Service

from:

Many people today have opted to forego their home phone service altogether and make do with just their cell phones. While this is a viable option, others would rather keep their home phone service, yet they don’t want to pay the high prices, especially when it comes to long distance charges. Many wireless phone customers are used to having free long distance and don’t want to have to pay high long distance charges on their home phones. However, there are some options open to those who may be considering giving their home phone service a makeover.

Have Broadband? Try Vonage

Vonage is a reliable phone service that works with broadband Internet connections and it is only $24.95 per month. This price includes both local and long distance as well as several calling feature. Perhaps the best thing about Vonage is that you never realize you are talking over an Internet phone. You are able to use your regular phones, corded or cordless with Vonage and the quality is every bit as clear as major home telephone service providers. You will need to purchase a Vonage phone adapter, which costs about $50 and there is a cancelation fee if you cancel before the end of two years of service. However, as long as you’re going to have a home phone, you will have no reason to cancel because the price is right, the quality is great, and customer service is helpful and friendly and easy to contact.

Features

Remember, you don’t have to pay extra for the features Vonage offers, either. You’ll want to see their website for the list of all their included features because the list is quite extensive! However, a few are listed here: caller id, voicemail, call forwarding, and anonymous call block. These are just a few of the features that are included with the Vonage service at no extra charge. You can also manage your Vonage account online so there is convenience at every turn. In addition, it doesn’t matter if the people you call have Internet service or Vonage; the call will be as normal as if you were speaking over a “regular phone service.”

MagicJack

MagicJack is one of the newest of the VOIP services and it is much cheaper than regular phone service. It is also much cheaper than Vonage but the quality is nowhere near the quality of Vonage either. With Magic Jack, you plug your phone into the MagicJack, which is about the size of a credit card and then you plug the MagicJack into your computer’s USB port. The price is $39.95 plus shipping and handling and this price does cover a year of service.

MagicJack may be a good choice if you have a cell phone and aren’t that crazy about having a home phone. While you can make and receive unlimited local and long distance phone calls with MagicJack, it is clear that you are speaking over a less than clear connection at times. Still, for the price, it isn’t bad and it does come with free voicemail so even if you just use it as a message phone, you can’t beat the price.
